The Center for Religion & Psychotherapy of Chicago

Education Program

Based on The Center’s integrative, non-denominational model, this two-year, part-time advanced certificate program is designed for clinicians (psychologists, counselors, social workers, chaplains, etc.) and graduate students who wish to develop a solid foundation in psychoanalytic self psychology along with a deeper grasp of the significance of the religious and spiritual dimensions of human life within the therapeutic process.

As part of the Ph.D. in Pastoral Theology, Personality, & Culture or the M.A. in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Garrett-Evangelical Theological School, or as part of the D. Min. program with a specialization in pastoral counseling at the Chicago Theological Seminary, this program provides the clinical training and much of the academic work required for students to sit for the State of Illinois’ licensure exam for clinical professional counselors (LCPC). Classes meet on Friday mornings from 8 AM – 1 or 2 PM.

For those preparing for licensure, there is a first year practicum and a second year internship. CRPC has teamed up with Access Community Health Network, the Chicago area’s largest private primary health care provider to the underserved, and the nation’s largest community health center organization. Students will fulfill their practicum requirement and part of their internship requirements at one of Access’s sites.

Admission

Admission to the program is open to any interested clinician who has achieved a minimum of master’s level proficiency in a discipline related to the field (psychology, social work, counseling, pastoral counseling, chaplaincy, psychiatric nursing, etc.). In addition, students who wish to use this program to lead them towards licensure as an LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) in the state of Illinois can take this program while pursuing their MA in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, or in conjunction with the relevant doctoral-level programs at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary or Chicago Theological Seminary. In these cases, students must apply to both the seminary and CRPC separately. The deadline for all application materials to reach CRPC is April 1.
